Policy = Community
Just a note about our cancellation policy: We know it seems pretty tough for a place devoted to keeping things easy, but please remember that our teachers are contractors who make a living lesson by lesson. They are not salaried and they are not on an hourly wage. When we create a teacher’s schedule they agree to prioritize us over any other possible work, because it is important to us that we respect your commitment to us. If we did not have these policies in place it would mean that each time a student cancels, without rescheduling, it is an unexpected loss of income for our incredible teachers. We firmly believe we have some of the best music teachers in NYC and we ask your help in respecting their commitment and valuing their time. This only works if we all work together.

Beginning Fall of 2024, our auto-renewing 5 and 10 Class Packs will only be available to our adult students. All other students will be enrolled on a semesterly basis, which will be pro-rated at the time of enrollment.
We will continue to use Class Packs in June, July, and August 2024 for all students, phasing them out for non-adults as summer ends. Any lessons remaining on packs on September 1st 2024 will be applied to a semester enrollment.
We have a strict 24 hr cancelation policy, so lessons canceled with less than 24 hrs notice by the student cannot be rescheduled, nor will a refund/credit be given.
Cancelations/Make-ups
Upon enrollment, students will be given a link to their portal, where they can manage their own schedules. If cancellation is more than 24 hours in advance, you will be able to use the rescheduler in your portal to reschedule your lessons. If your cancellation is less than 24 hours in advance you will forfeit your lesson. *If you email us about making changes, we will be very happy to hear from you, but we will also gently direct you back to the rescheduling link.
Teacher Absence
If a teacher is unable to attend a lesson for any reason, you will be given a suitable stand-in for your lesson. If there is no suitable stand-in available, your account will be credited a lesson which can be rescheduled within 60 days. We understand that students get attached to certain teachers, but we ask that you bring your child to lesson, even when there is a stand-in. All stand-ins are teachers that are fully on our staff and all of our staff are equally qualified and kind.
Group Classes
Absences in group classes cannot be made up, so please try to attend each class! We appreciate a heads up via email, if you can’t make it, but we don’t take attendance in our groups, so this is just a courtesy.
Student Illness
In the event that the student is ill, the 24 hr cancelation policy still applies. We understand these things can’t be predicted, but we cannot make exceptions. No students should attend lessons when sick (i.e. fever, nausea, vomiting, etc.). We will need to dismiss a student from a scheduled lesson if the student arrives exhibiting symptoms of illness. In this case, a makeup lesson will not be offered. Please, if your child did not attend school due to illness do not bring them to their lesson. Private music lessons involve close quarters and shared objects, so please respect the health of your teacher and other students. If you feel well enough for a lesson, but shouldn’t share space, just let us know and we will get a zoom lesson set up for your regularly scheduled time!
Snow Days/Pandemic/Wildfire Smoke
If the school needs to close for any reason, we will hold all lessons virtually. Group classes will be made up on another day. If you opt out of virtual lessons and don’t reschedule, you will be marked attended, but given makeup time credit on your account, which will expire in two months or at the end of the semester, depending on enrollment.
Auto-Renewing Class Packs (adults only)
Our Class Packs will automatically be renewed when there is one class remaining on the pack. You can pause or stop at anytime! If you need to stop your lessons for any reason, please just let us know before the last lesson of the pack. Notifications are sent when there is one lesson remaining, in case you lose track of where you are at in your series. If you opt out of auto-renew, or don’t have a card on file, please note that we cannot reserve your time slot beyond the length of the current pack. Auto-renewing insures that you always have your lesson on our schedule!
Non-Renewing Class Packs (summer only)
During July and August, non-adult students may purchase one time non-renewing 5 class packs to use during the summer. Any classes remaining on September 1st will be applied to a semester enrollment. Students do not need to maintain a regular schedule during the summer, but we appreciate as much heads up about availability at the time of purchase, as possible. Otherwise, all other policies apply.
