PRIVATE LESSONS

Through one-on-one instruction with professional, experienced teachers, The Practice Room works to create and nurture an active community of well-rounded musicians of all ages, both in-person and online.

Our teachers offer weekly private lessons in Piano, Voice, Guitar, Ukulele, Bass, Drums, Flute, Violin, Woodwinds, Songwriting, Improvisation, and Theory. We do not use a school-wide curriculum, instead tailoring each lesson to the goals and needs of the individual student.

We aren’t just here for the kiddos. We are incredibly proud to have a large community of adult students and full families enrolled and involved in our little school.

Reach your musical goals with the help of one on one instruction

Learn more about our lessons for all ages:

  • We understand that students this age have outgrown baby music classes, but might not be quite ready to dive into traditional 30 minute lessons on one instrument. To bridge this gap, our lessons for this age group are created to inspire and encourage curiosity about all forms of music.

Each lesson is tailored just for your child’s interests and abilities. Every lesson includes activities meant to introduce musical vocabulary and concepts, while keeping the body moving and singing. Among other things, students will play on multiple melodic and rhythmic instruments, write songs, and use their bodies to clap, stomp, dance, and tiptoe to the beat of popular songs.

For the last ten minutes of each lesson, the student will apply the concepts introduced in the lesson to learning or writing a song, either on the piano or the Loog guitar.

If you believe your child would thrive in a more traditional lesson, let’s talk! We will always meet students where they are at.

*we recommend all students of this age have a keyboard and/or a Loog guitar at home, but it is not required.

  • Lessons for children ages 5-18 generally consist of instruction on one instrument of their choosing, although we also offer private lessons in songwriting and music theory.

In these supportive lessons, each teacher sets appropriate goals, based on each student’s unique personality and interest.

We teach all levels and all styles of music. Is your 11 year old only interested in Taylor Swift songs? We can use these songs to teach all of the musical concepts taught in more traditional lessons, while keeping his or her interest. If Bach is more your thing, we have extremely skilled, classically trained teachers on our team that would be delighted to dive deep.

All lessons will include the teaching of note reading, level appropriate rhythmic concepts, technique, and will always encourage creativity on the instrument.

The ultimate goal for all of our lessons is to create a practice habit away from the school. We often talk about the “practice of practicing”, which is not only required for technical progress, but can create independence, curiosity, and confidence. For many of us, and our students, the “practice of practicing” is experienced much like meditation or yoga. It’s a time to put the phone away, leave self judgment at the door, and become curious about what we are capable of, when we actually give ourselves the chance.

*all students at this age must have an instrument to practice on at home! Ask us if you’re unsure what is needed.

  • Our adult students come from all different backgrounds, with varying levels of musical experience.

Even if you have never done anything musical before, private lessons are a great place to start. Beginner lessons will include learning the basics of music and the basics of your chosen instrument. If you have your own musical goals we would love to help you meet them. Unsure what your goals are? We can help you find one.

If you are trying to get back into the swing of things, we are here to get you motivated! We will use our skills to help create direction, identify areas that could use work, and pick repertoire and technique that will challenge you.

Are you looking to switch directions with your own musical practice and need guidance? Many classically trained musicians reach adulthood and realize that, despite having great technique and skill, they can’t improvise or are scared of even trying to improvise! Sometimes, we meet adults that have had a full career as a rock musician who regret that they never learned to read musical notation. Many of our teachers, including our owner, have gone through these exact experiences and discovered that it is possible to still grow- especially when provided with the right environment, information, and experiences. We can provide all of these things for the continuation of your musical journey.
